Teenage Pregnancy Recent statistics have shown a continuing increase in teen pregnancy in the United States. This increase is of particular concern because teen mothers and their babies face increased risks to their health. The birth rate for young teens (age 15 to 17) is steadily rising. Between 1986 and 1991, the rate increased by 27 percent (from a rate of 30.5 to a rate of 38.7 per 1,000 women). In 1991 (the most recent year for which data are available), nearly 4 in 100 girls ages 15 to 17 had a baby.(1) About 1 million teenagers become pregnant each year, and more than 530,000 give birth.(1) Nearly 13% of all U.S. births in 1991 were to teens.(1) Teenage pregnancy and birth rates in the U.S. exceed those in most developed countries.(2) Teens too often have poor eating habits, and may smoke, drink alcohol and take drugs, increasing the risk that their babies will be born with health problems. Pregnant teens are least likely of all maternal age groups to get early and regular prenatal care. In 1991,11 percent of teen mothers received late or no prenatal care.(1) (The overall average is 6 percent.) A teenage mother is more at risk of pregnancy complications such as premature or prolonged labor, anemia and high blood pressure. These risks are even greater for teens who are less than 15 years old.(3) Three million teens are affected by sexually transmitted diseases annually, out of the 12 million cases reported.(4) These include chlamydia (which can cause sterility), syphilis (which can cause blindess, death, and death to the infant) and AIDS, which is fatal to the mother and can infect the infant. A baby born to a teenage mother is more at risk than a baby born to an older mother. Nine percent of teenage girls have low-birthweight babies (under 5.5 lbs.), compared to 7 percent of all mothers nationally.(1) Low-birthweight babies may have organs that are not fully developed. This can lead to lung problems such as respiratory distress syndrome, or bleeding in the brain. Low-birthweight babies are 40 times more likely to die in their first month of life than normal-weight babies. Life is often difficult for a teenage mother and her child. One in three teen mothers drops out of high school. With her education cut short, a teenage mother may lack job skills, making it hard for her to find and keep a job. A teenage mother may become financially dependent on her family or on welfare. Teens may not have developed good parenting skills, or have social-support systems to help them deal with the stress of raising an infant. The March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality. Through its Campaign for Healthier Babies, the March of Dimes funds programs of research, community services, education and advocacy. Because of the risks involved in teen pregnancy to both mother and child, the March of Dimes strongly urges teenage girls to delay childbearing. Teens who are already pregnant can improve their chances of having a healthy baby by: ~Getting early and regular prenatal care from a doctor or clinic. ~Eating a nutritious and balanced diet. ~Consuming 0.4 milligrams of folic acid (the amount found in most multivitamin supplements) daily to reduce the risk of serious birth defects of the brain and spine. ~Avoiding smoking (and secondhand smoke when possible) and alcoholic beverages. ~Avoiding all drugs, unless recommended by a doctor or health care provider who is aware of the pregnancy. Internship with MCB Bank Limited Executive Summary MCB was built-in in 1997 and was later on privatized by the Government of Pakistan. The Nishat Group bought the major shares of the bank and got the rights to control the banks operations. After the privatization of the bank, MCB has executed different policies to make it one of the best banks of Pakistan; they introduce new products and services and increase its operations by opening new branches in Pakistan. Internship training is necessary for the degree of MBA as per HEC requirement. It is necessary for me to complete an internship session of about 6 to 8 weeks in any organization. I have chosen the banking sector because its my priority to get the job in banking sector and its also relevant to my area of interest and specialization. I did my eight weeks internship at MCB Morgah branch, Rawalpindi. My work at MCB was truly an interesting experience. The branch I have chosen for internship is not a very big branch it has only four departments which includes customer service department, clearing department, remittance department and cash department.I have work in all the departments but major work in done in first three departments as internee is not allowed to work freely in cash department as per the rule of the bank. This report gives an insight of the departments in which I work.In MCB different types of accounts are opened according to the needs of customers. That is the reasons due to which many areas are still reach less for internees like cash operations, computer operations and issues like that. 2.3 DETAILS OF TRAINING DEPARTMENT WISE 2.3.1 CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT In this department I was under the supervision of Mr. Mohsin, who is Customer Relational Officer. In this department Mr. Mohsin has taught me how to deal with the customers, how to fill the account opening forms, KYC forms and to check the balance from the SYMBOL software though I am not allowed checking the balance because of secrecy problems. LEARNING TASKS PERFORMED IN CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT: The major task performed by me in this department is that I have opened the accounts of faculty members of FAUJI FOUNDATION UNIVERSITY by personally visiting the university. I have learnt about the opening of an account, the documents required for the opening of the account i.e Personal ID card, Next of kin ID card, valid mailing address, Salary slip in case of salaried person, NTN in case of business account etc I have come to know about the nature of different accounts and come to know that which account is suitable for which type of the customer like BBA account for salaried persons. How to communicate with the customers and tell the customer about his/her quires and tell the customer about the new products and services offered by the bank. I have learnt how to check the balance from the SYMBOL software though I am not allowed to check the balance in the absence of CRO. How to write a cheque, fill the deposit slip for the cheque and to fill the form for the ONLINE transfer of fund. How to tell the balance on the telephone after proper verification. How to reactivate the Dormant Account. I have learnt about the procedure for the issuance of ATM card. How to maintain the ATM cards in proper order. 2.3.2 CLEARING DEPARTMENT In clearing department I worked under the supervision of Mr. Hammad and learned a lot from him I have learnt about the inward and outward clearing. 2.3.2.1. MEANING OF CLEARING In clearing the banks exchange cheques and other negotiable instruments drawn on each other within a specific area and in this manner safe payment for their customers through the Clearing House at precise time in an well-organized way. 2.3.2.2 PARTIES INVOLVED IN CLEARING There are basically two parties involved in clearing. 1. NIFT: NIFT stands for National Institutional Facilitation Technologies. It is the facility given by the SBP to a private organization named NIFT. The duties of the NIFT includes, to collect the cheques, demand drafts, Pay orders and Travelers Cheques, etc. from all the branches of different banks within city through its carriers and send them to the branches for clearing. 2. CLEARING HOUSE: It is a place where cheques are presented, collected from the bank branch. It is one of the services provided by NIFT to other commercial banks. NIFT acts as a clearinghouse. 2.3.2.3. TYPES OF CLEARING: There are basically two types of clearing. OUTWARD CLEARING: In outward clearing when cheque is received two copies of voucher are prepared, one c opy and instruments along with clearing stamp, realization stamp, add list and two vouchers of clearing abstract are sent to NIFT INWARD CLEARING: In Inward clearing instruments received from NIFT are posted in Computers after checking. 2.3.2.4. INSTRUMENTS USED FOR CLEARING Following are the Instruments used in clearing department. Transfer, Transfer Delivery, Clearing, Cheque collection Pay in slip. 2.3.2.5. DIFFERENT REASONS OF CHEQUES DISHONOUR FROM CLEARING In inward clearing sometimes cheques are not passed due to some reasons then cheques are sent back to NIFT along with cheque return memo. Some of these reasons are Cheque is returned because some time it is incomplete Cheque is returned if the clearing stamp is required. One another main reason of cheques return is incompleteness or difference in Drawers sign from specimen One reason of returning of cheque is that drawer stop the payment. Cheques are also returned because of insufficient funds etc. LEARNING IN CLEARING DEPARTMENT: My learning in clearing department was of following things: I have learnt about the clearing procedure, types of clearing inward outward clearing. I have learnt how to check the cheques. I have learnt the different reasons of returning of cheques from NIFT. I have learnt how to prepare the sheets for clearing. I have learnt how to maintain clearing register. I have also learnt about the instruments used in clearing. I have come to know that the cheques are cleared on the next day. Once the NIFT department collect the instruments, any instruments received after that will be cleared after two days. 2.3.3 REMITTANCE DEPARTMENT Bank Alfalah Remittance 2.3.3.1 MEANING OF REMITTANCE: Remittance is the transfer of resources from one place to another or from one person to another. It is an important facility provided by the banks to its customers as well as to its non-customers. Since it is not a free service it is a source of income for the bank. In cash department both cash deposits and withdrawals go side by side. In this department I havent perform any task but I have learnt different thing about this department. This department is involved in two activities Cash Deposits and Cash payments. The officers in this department are called tellers and there are two tellers in Morgah branch Mr. Ahsan and Mr. Sabir. The Books maintained in the cash department are as fallow Cash Receipt Book Cash Payment Book Cash Balance Book MY LEARNING IN CASH DEPARTMENT I have not performed any task in this department but my learning in cash department includes In this department I come to know about the Strong Room. Strong room is the room where cash is deposited and stored. The keys of this room are kept by Manager, Operational Manager and the cashier. MCB has three categories of cash which are Sorted Cash, Soiled Cash and Unsorted Cash. Sorted cash is issued to the customer, soiled cash is basically destroyed cash which is not issue to customer but sent to state bank for reissuance. Every Bank has a cash limit which it can store after banking hours like in Morgah branch cash limit is 5 Millions. This amount of cash is insured by the state bank. I have learnt to fill the deposit slip and how to write a cheque for cash withdrawal. The cheque books are kept in the strong room. Internees are not allowed to go in this room. The war against terrorism has negatively affect Pakistans economy, which may affect MCB. Another threat for MCB is from the prosperous foreign banks. MCB have to upgrade its system and should launch new and innovative products so compete with its foreign competitors. Pakistan is an Islamic state where mostly people are Muslims and are abide by the religious laws which dont allow them to use some features of banks like Interest on deposits so they dont prefer banking culture. The new product like UBL Selah Mila is a great threat to MCB as they are giving discounted mark ups to those customers who have good credit history and trying to get the customers of MCB. The decrease in the purchasing power of the customers in the current economic situation affects the banking sector too much and the result is the low investment from the investors in new projects. RECOMMENDATIONS Recommendations are basically pinning out the weaker areas of the organization and develop strategies to overcome these weaker areas by giving suggestions. After working as an internee in MCB for the period of two months I am able to make the following recommendations for the bank. The most important area where MCB has to improve is its advertisement. MCB should give proper advertisement of its products extensively to create awareness about the products and to capture the large market share. MCB should decorate the branches as the most of the modern banks attract customers with their modern office looks and fresh environment. MCB should recruit the applicants on the basis of merit and skills. The HR department of MCB should not recruit the applicants on the basis of Favoritism and Nepotism. HR department of MCB should give proper training to its employees so that they can cope up with the future challenges and they should arrange different workshops for the employees on better communication of staff with customers. In MCB training should be provided with job rotation so as to make the employees talented enough to do others work in case of emergency. MCB should introduce the new, better and transparent reward system because it is very important requirement in order to reduce the problems regarding employee retention and employee motivation. MCB should announce the proper time for Launch Break, so that the employees do their work more efficiently. The staff should be given some sort of decision making authority that enables the employees involvement and boosts employees trust and confidence. MCB should also introduce new and innovative products so as to compete with its competitors. ATM machine must be maintained accurately to make it more convenient for the customers and to decrease the work load of the employees especially in the salary days. MCB should solve the problems regarding the link down and disconnection of SYMBOL software in order to provides more convenience to customers. The employees of MCB need more computer training. CONCLUSIONS MCB is using the SYMBOL software which is very efficient. The computerized branches have enhanced the performance of the bank. The bank provides a favorable environment for career growth. The bank gives too low rate of interest on deposits because of which customers are shifting to other banks. Recently MCB bank has implemented the centralized system which decreases the efficiency because of delay in work and low employee involvement. The procedure for the accounts opening is too lengthy as now forms are sent to Karachi Head office for approval. The large branch network, ATM installation and diversified products provide the bank a competitive advantage. The main focus of the bank is their customers and they are providing the customers different diversified products with minimum service charges. Finally I concluded that MCB is the very good organization for the long carrier working. The branch officers are very efficient, skillful, loyal and competent. The officers of my branch are very hard working usually they work more than their working hours which show their loyalty and commitment towards MCB. I found myself very lucky to work with one of the prestigious bank and to get the practical knowledge about MCB and its present scenario. It was a very challenging and informative experience. I came to know about the working of the banking sector and whatever I have learned was very enlightening. I come to know many things like opening of an account, closing of an account, how to active the dormant account, about the clearance and remittance procedure etc. I came to know the actual working of bank and whatever I studied in the university was a great help and I was able to apply my theoretical knowledge by implementing it during the internship.

How to Make Spanish Rice Making Spanish rice is a fairly fast and easy process. It involves browning the rice, adding the ingredients, and cooking the rice. Before you begin you will need the following ingredients: cooking oil (vegetable or canola), long grain rice (I prefer Mahatma Jasmine), a tomato, an onion, water, and tomato bullion. The following seasonings are optional: Sazon Goya con azafran, Sazon Goya con culantro/achiote. found on Mexican food aisle at most grocery stores)You will also need a two quart sauce pan with a lid (a larger pan may be used, but the rice will cook faster, therefore the cooking time will vary), a large spoon, and a gas or electric stove top. You need to take caution not to brown the rice too fast. If you cook the Spanish rice according to the following process, the rice will be soft and moist, with no standing liquid in the pan. First you will need to brown the rice.In order to do this, you will need to add a half cup of cooking oil to a two quart s auce pan (a larger pan will work, but the rice will have more room to cook, therefore it will cook faster and take less time). Next, pre-heat the oil on medium heat for about two minutes. Then add two cups of long grain rice to the pre-heated oil. (I prefer Mahatma Jasmine long grain rice because it cooks fluffier and it looks better) Continue to cook the rice on medium heat, stirring often with a large spoon. While the rice is browning, chop a small tomato and half of a medium onion.When the rice starts to brown, you will need to stir the rice more frequently. The rice will burn if you fail to stir it often or have the heat too high. The rice will be a golden brown color when it is ready for the next process. Browning the rice usually takes about fifteen minutes. The second process is adding the ingredients. First, stir in the chopped onions and tomatoes. Then add five and a half cups of water and stir. Let the water heat, but not to boiling. When the water appears hot, add five te aspoons of Knorr tomato bullion.Then add two packets of each: Sazon Goya con azafran (orange/yellow box), Sazon Goya con culantro/achiote (two tone orange box). (This can be found on the Mexican aisle at most grocery stores. The Sazon Goya is optional. I use it because it gives the rice a little more color and I think a better flavor). Stir the mixture until the seasonings are well dissolved. Place the lid on the rice. You should then reduce the heat at this point to medium/low. The final step in cooking the Spanish rice doesn’t take long. I think it is the fastest process of the three.I usually let the rice cook for about thirteen-eighteen minutes. I do not stir the rice at all during this final step. I open the lid every few minutes to make sure the rice is not cooking too fast. You should see liquid for at least the first eight minutes or so. When you do not stir the rice, it appears fluffier and not so mushy looking. The Spanish rice will be ready when you no longer see s tanding liquid in the pan. You can carefully insert the large spoon down to the bottom of the pan of Spanish rice (without stirring) to make sure the rice is not cooking too fast and to see if the rice is ready.The rice will be soft when it is ready. Keep the lid on the pan until you are ready to serve it. If you have followed the previous steps of this process correctly, your Spanish rice will be fluffy and soft. If you browned the rice too fast, it will be hard and will not fully cook as it should. The rice will also have a burnt taste. In the event this happens, reduce the heat while you are browning the rice or stir more frequently the next time you make Spanish rice.If the Spanish rice is too dry or hard, it may be possible you had your heat to high after adding the ingredients. The next time you should cook it on a lower heat, or add a little more water. You may take into consideration that some stoves may vary. This process was done with an electric stove. You can make little tweaks in this process if you find it necessary. You can reduce the heat if the rice appears to cook to fast. The rice seldom ever cooks too slowly. If it cooks too slowly, it will usually just take a little longer to cook.

Major General James H. Wilson in the Civil War James H. Wilson - Early Life: Born September 2, 1837 in Shawneetown, IL, James H. Wilson received his education locally before attending McKendree College.   Remaining there for a year, he then applied for an appointment to West Point.   Granted, Wilson arrived at the academy in 1856 where his classmates included Wesley Merritt and Stephen D. Ramseur.   A gifted student, he graduated four years later ranked sixth in a class of forty-one. This performance earned him a posting to the Corps of Engineers.   Commissioned as a second lieutenant, Wilsons initial assignment saw him serve at Fort Vancouver in the Department of Oregon as a topographical engineer.   With the beginning of the Civil War the following year, Wilson returned east for service in the Union Army. James H. Wilson - A Gifted Engineer Staff Officer: Assigned to Flag Officer Samuel F. Du Pont and Brigadier General Thomas Shermans expedition against Port Royal, SC, Wilson continued to serve as a topographical engineer.   Taking part in this effort in late 1861, he remained in the region in the spring of 1862 and aided Union forces during the successful siege of Fort Pulaski.   Ordered north, Wilson joined the staff of Major General George B. McClellan, commander of the Army of the Potomac.   Serving as an aide-de-camp, he saw action during the Union victories at South Mountain and Antietam that September.   The following month, Wilson received orders to serve as the chief topographical engineer in Major General Ulysses S. Grants Army of the Tennessee. Arriving in Mississippi, Wilson aided Grants efforts to capture the Confederate stronghold of Vicksburg.   Made inspector general of the army, he was in this post during the campaign that led to the siege of the city including the fighting at Champion Hill and Big Black River Bridge.   Earning Grants trust, he remained with him in the fall of 1863 for the campaign to relieve Major General William S. Rosecrans Army of the Cumberland at Chattanooga.   Following the victory at the Battle of Chattanooga, Wilson received a promotion to brigadier general and moved north as chief engineer of Major General William T. Shermans force which was tasked with aiding Major General Ambrose Burnside at Knoxville.   Ordered to Washington, DC in February 1864, he assumed command of the Cavalry Bureau.   In this position he worked tirelessly to supply the Union Armys cavalry and lobbied to equip it with fast-loading Spencer repeating carbines. James H. Wilson - Cavalry Commander: Though an able administrator, Wilson received a brevet promotion to major general on May 6 and command of a division in Major General Philip H. Sheridans Cavalry Corps.   Taking part in Grants Overland Campaign, he saw action at the Wilderness and played a role in Sheridans victory at Yellow Tavern.   Remaining with the Army of the Potomac for much of the campaign, Wilsons men screened its movements and provided reconnaissance.    With the beginning of the siege of Petersburg in June, Wilson and Brigadier General August Kautz were tasked with conducting a raid into General Robert E. Lees rear to destroy key railroads that supplied the city.   Riding out on June 22, the effort initially proved successful as over sixty miles of track were destroyed.   Despite this, the raid quickly turned against Wilson and Kautz as attempts to destroy the Staunton River Bridge failed.   Harried east by Confederate cavalry, the two commanders were blocked by enemy forces at Reams Station on June 29 and were forced to destroy much of their equipment and split up.   Wilsons men finally reached safety on July 2.   A month later, Wilson and his men traveled north as part of the forces assigned to Sheridans Army of the Shenandoah.   Tasked with clearing Lieutenant General Jubal A. Early from the Shenandoah Valley, Sheridan attacked the enemy at the Third Battle of Winchester in late September and won a clear victory. James H. Wilson - Back to the West: In October 1864, Wilson was promoted to major general of volunteers and ordered to oversee the cavalry in Shermans  Military Division of the Mississippi.   Arriving in the west, he trained the cavalry that would serve under Brigadier General Judson Kilpatrick during Shermans March to the Sea.   Rather than accompany this force, Wilson remained with Major General George H. Thomas Army of the Cumberland for service in Tennessee. Leading a cavalry corps at the Battle of Franklin on November 30, he played a key role when his men repulsed an attempt to turn the Union left by noted Confederate cavalryman Major General Nathan Bedford Forrest.   Reaching Nashville, Wilson worked to refit his cavalry before the Battle of Nashville on December 15-16.   On the second day of the fighting, his men delivered a blow against Lieutenant General John B. Hoods left flank and then pursued the enemy after they retreated from the field. In March 1865, with little organized opposition remaining, Thomas directed Wilson to lead 13,500 men on a raid deep into Alabama with the goal of destroying the Confederate arsenal at Selma.   In addition to further disrupting the enemys supply situation, the effort would support Major General Edward Canbys operations around Mobile.   Departing on March 22, Wilsons command moved in three columns and met light resistance from troops under Forrest.   Arriving at Selma after several skirmishes with the enemy, he formed to assault the city.   Attacking, Wilson shattered the Confederate lines and routed Forrests men from the town. After burning the arsenal and other military targets, Wilson marched on Montgomery.   Arriving on April 12, he learned of Lees surrender at Appomattox three days earlier.   Pressing on with the raid, Wilson crossed into Georgia and defeated a Confederate force at Columbus on April 16.   After destroying the towns navy yard, he continued on to Macon where the raid ended on April 20.   With the end of hostilities, Wilsons men fanned out as Union troops made an effort to capture fleeing Confederate officials.   As part of this operation, his men succeeded in capturing Confederate President Jefferson Davis on May 10.   Also that month, Wilsons cavalry arrested Major Henry Wirz, commandant of the of the notorious Andersonville prisoner of war camp. James H. Wilson - Later Career Life: With the end of the war, Wilson soon reverted to his regular army rank of lieutenant colonel.   Though officially assigned to the 35th US Infantry, he spent the majority of the final five years of his career engaged in various engineering projects.    Leaving the US Army on December 31, 1870, Wilson worked for several railroads as well as took part in engineering projects on the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers.   With the beginning of the Spanish-American War in 1898, Wilson sought a return to military service.   Appointed a major general of volunteers on May 4, he led troops during the conquest of Puerto Rico and later served in Cuba.    Commanding the Department of Matanzas and Santa Clara in Cuba, Wilson accepted an adjustment in rank to brigadier general in April 1899.   The following year, he volunteered for the China Relief Expedition and crossed the Pacific to combat the Boxer Rebellion.   In China from September to December 1900, Wilson aided in the capture of the Eight Temples and Boxer headquarters.   Returning to the United States, he retired in 1901 and represented President Theodore Roosevelt at the coronation of King Edward VII of the United Kingdom the following year.   Active in business, Wilson died at Wilmington, DE on February 23, 1925.   One of the last living Union generals, he was buried in the citys Old Swedes Churchyard.
